Too Busy Marco by Roz Chast

Chast, Roz. Too Busy Marco. Atheneum Books. 32p. 2010. ISBN 9781416984740

Ages 3 and up
Marco is a parrot being raised by humans, and when he is told to go to bed, he resists saying he is much too busy. Marco is an inventor, a painter, a skateboarder, etc. he has a million things to do and sleep is just not on his agenda! As the story progresses, Chast illustrates Marco's eyes getting more and more ecentric, until finally sleep overcomes him and he eventually falls asleep.  Many parents probably understand the struggles of putting their child to sleep, especially when a tantrum ensues. The mother in the story lets Marco, fall asleep on his own gently reminding him it is time for bed, realizing his exhaustion will catch up.
