 Starting school is scary, especially if you don't speak the same language as everyone else. As Carmen enters school, she is shy and scared, afraid that people will make fun of her, but when her teacher makes an effort to speak in Spanish, she feels comfortable that she will not be laughed at. As Carmen learns English words, she associates the words to that in Spanish, going home to teach her sister Lupita. Though quiet in school, Carmen is observing and absorbing as much English as possible, becoming more confident in becoming bilingual. Cox and Dominguez create a story that realistically sheds light of the importance of being inclusive in the classroom.

On the first endpage, we see a little red-haired girl who we later find out is named Mia, Mia is counting and jumping through puddles calling out to her sister. In typical little sister fashion, Mia follows her sister Lucy EVERYWHERE! Lucy feels as if her little sister is an annoying little monster and tells her to get lost. When her wish comes true, and real monsters want to keep Mia, Lucy gets monstrous too! With vivid colors spreading from each corner of the book, Fotheringham really showcases the love and nuisance of having a younger sibling. Through Rosenbaum's dialogue, the reader is shown how grateful they should be to having a younger sibling. Highly recommended for older siblings who need to be gently reminded that, it's not always so bad having a little sibling.
