 A beautiful book, to teach both colors and acceptance. This book is filled with photographs of children and their families. This book shows children of all colors and ethnicity. It also showcases a lesbian and gay couple happily loving their children. Beyond learning colors, children are taught love, acceptance, and self-belief. At the end of the book, the reader is informed that the colors of the rainbow symbolize special meanings to the LGBTQ community; life, healing, sunlight, nature, peace, harmony, and spirit. Stevenson's book is inspiring as it is beautiful.

Told through the eyes of young Marciela, we see her perspective of having to live with the reality of her father's deportation. Filled with sadness, and lonliness, Marciela's feelings will break your heart. Left with an unresolved ending, Marciela hopes that her father is thinking of her under the same mango moon. Cornelison's portrayal of her characters are soft portraits, focusing on the representation of emotions rather than facial features. By not disclosing a country to be deported to, this books represents the many children facing this reality because their parents are undocumented.

As a young boy prepares for his school assignment on the Ernest Shackleton and his expedition to Antartica, a snowstorm hits and strands him and his 'crew' at home. The young boy logs his adventures at home as if he were really Captain Shackleton. With a mystery on our hands, we must find out who is stealing from the Captain, with the assumption it is the scallywag (the little brother).  Dionne and Ebbler portray the perfect snow day adventure.  Based on Dionne own snowstorm experience this story was initially posted on Facebook before it became the ideal storytime book.  At the end, the reader is given the opportunity to learn more about the actual Shackleton by reading the young boys report.
