Ages (0-2): Introducing a mother holding her baby, Beach Baby is a board book about going to sleep without the worries of missing out on missing beach animals. If the reader disregards the concept that this is a lullaby, this is an adorable board book about the many different animals at the beach. Missing a rhythm and tune to be considered a lullaby, the illustrations, however, by Mackay, show the beautiful scenes of the beach. With relaxing hues of reds, browns, and blues the picture captures the day ending and fading into night.

On the first endpage, we see a little red-haired girl who we later find out is named Mia, Mia is counting and jumping through puddles calling out to her sister. In typical little sister fashion, Mia follows her sister Lucy EVERYWHERE! Lucy feels as if her little sister is an annoying little monster and tells her to get lost. When her wish comes true, and real monsters want to keep Mia, Lucy gets monstrous too! With vivid colors spreading from each corner of the book, Fotheringham really showcases the love and nuisance of having a younger sibling. Through Rosenbaum's dialogue, the reader is shown how grateful they should be to having a younger sibling. Highly recommended for older siblings who need to be gently reminded that, it's not always so bad having a little sibling.
